A 17 minute retirement speech from the Chairman of an employer's federation in Nordrhein-Westfalen (and also the artist's father) forms the point of departure for this video work. In the empty auditiorium of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, the speech was recorded and restaged by the actress Judica Albrecht. In the original speech, Claire Waffel's father wanted to review his work life and also speak about mistakes made in his personal life. He perceived his keeping the Jewish identity of his wife and children secret during the whole period of his professional activity as failure by omission. In the original speech as well as its restaging at Haus der Kulturen der Welt this omission remains; the Jewish identity of the family is not mentioned. The twofold omission raises questions about the cause of this void and its societal context.
